BRONZE MOP- SHELL BLANKS
Pinctada penguin

Many customers ask me, “How many square inches are in an ounce of shell blanks?”.
This is not easy to answer because the shell blanks are not uniform in shape and size.
I think it best if I give you this picture of an ounce of Bronze MOP (1.5mm) that is what you can expect to get when you buy an ounce.
Perhaps if your math is a lot better than mine, you can go figure how many square inches are here?...
I can tell you that this ounce is enough shell to make most fret board inlay sets and about two Weymann #1 peg head inlays.

This is the Bronze MOP (Pinctada Penguin) shell as we get them. They are very curved and thin. Very few of the shells will yeild blanks that
are 1 mm (0.040”) to 1.5 mm (0.060”) thick.

“White” Bronze MOP

“White” Bronze MOP, I know that sounds silly, but when we process
Bronze MOP we get a number of blanks that are white in color.
These are very beautiful with a strong “color flash” and a rolling
effect under light. It is more silvery that our regular White MOP.

Price of these blanks are $18.00 per ounce when available.

This is a composite photo of several pieces of Bronze MOP.
We now offer full-thickness blanks of this unusual species of shell as part of our
effort to supply a full palett of colors from which to work.
This shell is similar in color to gold MOP, however, the colors are much richer.
Color ranges from bronze and copper to pearly white. This shell shows lots of
rainbow color flash.

Available in 0.040" (1mm), 0.050" (1.25mm) and 0.060" (1.5mm) blanks.

Price is $20/oz for all thickness blanks
